The FAA is committed to welcoming veterans into the civilian workforce and helping them transition into new career opportunities. We offer training and development programs dedicated to help our nation's veterans enjoy new careers with FAA. There are a variety of jobs available at FAA for veterans looking to continue to serve their nation. Veterans Employment Programs at FAAThe Veterans' Employment Program is an FAA- wide initiative dedicated to making sure that the career and vocational needs of America's veterans are supported as they transition into a civilian career. The FAA Veterans' Employment Program consists of the: New Sights Work Experience, Vet- Link Cooperative Education and Veterans' Training programs. You can learn more about these programs through career counselors within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The New Sights Work Experience Program. This program places service members pending medical retirements, into temporary work assignments that provide on- the- job skills training. The service members are referred to FAA through the Department of Defense's Operation Warfighter Program. Outreach events are conducted monthly at Fort Belvoir Warrior Transition Unit and Walter Reed National Naval Center in Bethesda, MD. The Vet- Link Cooperative Education Program. This program is part of the Department of Veteran Affair's, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR& E) Program. It is also commonly referred to as the Non- Paid Work Experience (NPWE) Program. While pursuing technical, vocational or academic degrees, veterans are placed in internships. The placement does not count against the agency's Full Time Equivalent (FTE) and the agency does not pay the veteran. VR& E pays the veteran monthly subsistence allowance while the veteran is participating in the program. During the placement, the veteran works towards gaining and/or strengthening particular skill sets. The Veterans' Training Program. In 2. 00. 6, FAA signed a memorandum of understanding with the VA to establish on- the- job training for veterans with disabilities. Under the program, veterans are hired and trained as entry- level air traffic control specialists, airway transportation system specialists or aviation safety assistants at FAA's Academy in Oklahoma City, OK. Program certification by the VA also allows certain FAA air traffic control specialists and airway transportation system specialists who are receiving on- the- job training to be considered by the VA for Montgomery GI Bill education benefits. The FAA's Veterans' Training Program (VTP) provides veterans on- the- job training for positions with FAA for roles in the Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) position and the Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (ATSS) position. During the program, participants may take advantage of Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) educational and vocational rehabilitation benefits.
